The Dark Knight hit theaters ten years ago around this time, and Warner Bros. will commemorate the anniversary by giving Batman fans a very special opportunity: The Dark Knight is coming to theaters again starting on August 24th, for a special 70mm IMAX release!

“Ten years ago today, Christopher Nolan’s groundbreaking blockbuster “The Dark Knight” was released. Commemorating the 10-year anniversary, Warner Bros. Pictures is bringing the film to four select IMAX® locations for an exclusive, one-week engagement, beginning August 24, 2018.

The announcement was made today by Jeff Goldstein (President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures).

With “The Dark Knight,” Nolan broke new ground—shooting select sequences of the movie with IMAX film cameras—making “The Dark Knight” the first major feature film to utilize IMAX 70mm film. The movie was hailed by both critics and audiences and went on to be the top-grossing release of 2008.

The exclusive limited engagement will offer the public an extremely rare opportunity to see “The Dark Knight.” 

Tickets for the opening day go on sale this Friday, July 20th, with showtimes only announced for August 24th. The theatres will list additional showtimes for subsequent dates closer to release. AMC Universal Citywalk IMAX, Universal City and AMC Lincoln Square IMAX, New York City will be showing the movie.

“The Dark Knight” stars Christian Bale in the title role and Heath Ledger, who won an Oscar for his performance as The Joker. Speaking of the Joker, he said two of my favorite lines in the movie, “Smile, because it confuses people.” and “As you know, madness is like gravity…all it takes is a little push.”

Nolan directed “The Dark Knight” from a screenplay written by himself and Jonathan Nolan. Christopher Nolan produced the film. Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull served as executive producers.

“The Dark Knight” is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics.

It was with Inception and The Dark Knight Rises that Chris Nolan truly began to explore the full scope and capability of 70MM IMAX footage, with key sequences of The Dark Knight being his first testing ground of the format.

Berkowitz wasn’t always the big-name writer celebrity that he is today. Like some, it began as a hobby, “When I was a little kid…I had a friend, who loved movies. He tried filming his own versions of the movies he saw in life. He wanted me to help him out and it was fun.”

His love for the entertainment industry continued so Berkowitz attended college for film. Like most writers, he has experience in a variety of genres which allows for flexibility. Though he is known for work in fiction, his first published piece was for the college newspaper.

“At the time, I was writing film reviews, I was also a film major at UCLA. I figured I could write, I’ll do the reviews and also try to make movies at UCLA.”

Though journalism didn’t end for him in college, “I was an entertainment reporter. Basically, doing interviews with showbiz people from about 1978 to 1985 for Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Magazine, The New York Times, The Daily News, Esquire Magazine and a bunch of others.”

When comparing journalism to fiction, Berkowitz said, “I prefer fiction, I think I’m better at fiction. Journalism is pretty hard because in addition to telling a good story you have to make sure it’s accurate and truthful and represents everyone correctly.”

Throughout his career Berkowitz moved from journalism to comics and finally onto animation. It wasn’t always easy, “For me it’s much harder to write a comic book strip because my background is in action. Live action and animation, where you’re describing an action. Whereas with a comic book you’re describing a moment, a single moment. It’s very hard for me to envision one phrase that will convey the information we need in that moment. But eventually the more you do it, the easier it is.”

Once he joined Warner Bros., he began to receive awards for his skills as a writer.

“I never thought I’d win any awards, I never planned on it. The first Emmy was kind of a cool thing… We put it in the kitchen. It’s kind of a bare kitchen and suddenly this statue up there immediately calls attention to itself.”

Berkowitz is now part of a new project that has debuted called, Latifa. Saudi Prince, Fahad Al Saud, came up with the idea of Vigilante Middle Eastern Women who fight for what’s right.

“With Latifa, Fahad had this vision for a whole world and he brought in writers like me to help him kind of articulate it. It’s the closest I’ve ever been to something that been created fresh from the ground up…Working on Latifa, working for Fahad was great.”

Berkowitz was approachable as he attended the Q&A segment on Comics and as he stayed at his booth. There he autographed the first comic of the new series he helped create. He also spoke on his experience at St. John’s first comic convention, BoroughCon.

“I’m having a great time here at the convention. Some of the nicest people came here. Here it’s easier to talk to people and find out what fans are looking for, what they like and how your work affects them.”

DC Entertainment president and chief creative officer Geoff Johns confirmed the casting in an interview discussing his newly acquired station at Warner Bros.’ movies involving their DC Comics titles.

Johns has remained mum on whether or not Deathstroke will have a cameo in upcoming Justice League film, which is currently shooting in London.

Created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, Deathstroke first appeared on the pages of Teen Titans in 1980 (initially going by the moniker the Terminator), before getting his own comic series in 1991. Wilson is a famous mercenary in the world of DC Comics, his fame of being able to go toe-to-toe with (even defeat) Batman on multiple occasions being only a single note in his list of notable feats.

Previously attached to 20th Century Fox’s upcoming X-Men related film, Gambit, the Hollywood Reporter broke word that Liman departed the Marvel superhero title for the DC camp. Years prior to this development, writer and director Guillermo Del Toro had been championing the JLD project, gaining the film’s creation traction but no official word or green light from Universal execs. Rumors hinted to Ron Perlman — Hellboy himself — playing Swamp Thing, Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor being considered for the role of John Constantine and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story villain, Ben Mendelsohn, was being eyed for the film’s primary villain, Anton Arcane.

No official release date or screenwriter for the film has ever been announced, but Warner Bros. has previously reserved the dates of October 5, 2018 and November 1, 2019 for yet Untitled DC films.

Director Joseph Kahn (Power/Rangers) made it known that he had previously pitched the idea of a JLD film to Warner Bros., including the animation test, prior to the announcement of the animated film. Because of this, it is very likely that the JLD film may very well be shelved for the foreseeable future (maybe). Director Guilermo Del Toro (Pacific Rim, Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy) had been adamantly championing a film adaptation of the magic-based super-team, despite no official green light ever being given on the proposed project.

Previous rumors hinted toward Ron Perlman as playing Swamp Thing, with Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor being mentioned for potentially playing John Constantine, along with another rumor that Ben Mendelsohn, who will serve as the villain in the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was being eyed for the role of Anton Arcane, the film’s primary villain.

Created by Peter Milligan and Mikel Jenin in 2011 — and later taken over by Jeff Lemire — Justice League Dark is about a team of supernatural ‘heroes’ (some would debate otherwise) existing within the DC universe. Among their ranks; John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Zatanna, Deadman and Swamp Thing (to name a few). Fated (or perhaps cursed) to band together whenever supernatural threats, the likes of which even Superman and the Justice League can’t handle, arises.

Patty Jenkins directs the long awaited superhero film, and is being produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder, with Richard Suckle, Stephen Jones, Wesley Coller, Geoff Johns and Rebecca Roven serving as executive producers.

Following the Wonder Woman movie, Gadot’s next film as Diana Prince will be Justice League which is already well into production. She will star alongside Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, and Jason Momoa in the Zack Snyder-directed film.

Wonder Woman is for release in theaters on June 2, 2017.

Dafoe’s other noted roles include:   American Psycho, Boondock Saints, and John Wick (to name a few), and was previously nominated for two Oscars for his supporting roles in Shadow of the Vampire and Platoon.

Justice League will mark the return of Zack Snyder in the director chair for the film, with Argo‘s Chris Terrio on script duties. Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot star as the DC Trinity, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman in the film. Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and Ezra Miller as The Flash. Amber Heard is set to play Queen Mera in the film as well before moving to the solo Aquaman film in 2018. J.K. Simmons will also appear as Commissioner Gordon. Filming for Justice League has commenced on location in London, with shooting also scheduled to take place in Iceland.

Justice League will slated to hit in theaters November 10, 2017.

Suicide Squad, aka Task Force X, was created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru in 1959, and has featured many DC villains among its ranks, such as Deadshot, Bane, Captain Boomerang, Count Vertigo, Killer Frost, Poison Ivy, Deathstroke, and (of course) Harley Quinn.
