Photographer Tyler Shields took the photo. It caused outrage on social media. Hilary Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea Clinton reacted on Tweeter: “This is vile and wrong. It is never funny to joke about killing a president.”

Entertaintment Weekly spoke with photographer Tyler over the phone:

EW- “While you were putting this together, were there any other concerns?

“There’s a behind-the-scenes video which just went live and literally in the video, we’re watching one of the videos that we were filming and Kathy’s honest reaction was, ‘We’re gonna have to move to Mexico because they’re gonna put me in jail.

“Now again, fortunately, we have freedom of speech and all art is generally protected by these things. But again, this was her first thought, ‘Will you bail me out of jail?’ You know, again, it wasn’t, ‘I don’t want to do this because I might go to jail.’ It was like, ‘Well, I’m gonna do it and whatever happens, happens.'”

Kathy Griffin apologized the same day. Admitting she went too far. She tweeted along with a video: “I am sorry. I went too far. I was wrong.”

Donald Trump also tweeted: “Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!”

On Friday June 2, 2017 Kathy apologized again. She had tears in front of cameras at a press conference.

Kathy stated at one point that “……president of the United States and his grown children and the first lady are personally I feel personally trying to ruin my life forever.”

She has received death threats. Also, negative comments. Further believes it is unfair that the president’s family has not taken her apology.

Her contract with CNN network has terminated
Griffin has lost sponsorships and jobs because of the offensive image.
