Marvel’s Ultimate “What If?”

In the sprawling multiverse of Marvel Comics, alternate realities allow creators to push storytelling into bold new territory. Among the most striking of these visions is “One World Under Doom”—a chilling scenario where Doctor Victor Von Doom, the monarch of Latveria and perennial adversary of the Fantastic Four, finally succeeds in what he has always believed to be his destiny: ruling the entire planet.

Doom’s Vision of Order

Doctor Doom has never seen himself as a mere villain. In his mind, he is a savior—someone burdened with the intellect and will to fix the world where others fail. “One World Under Doom” builds on that premise, asking: What if Doom won?

Instead of chaos, corruption, and endless political infighting, Doom enforces global order through sheer might and unyielding control. Poverty, disease, and crime are crushed under the weight of his iron fist. His Latverian technologies, unmatched by even Tony Stark or Reed Richards, are expanded worldwide. On paper, humanity thrives—at a cost.

The Price of Perfection

While Doom eradicates suffering, he also extinguishes freedom. Individual will, democracy, and creativity are sacrificed for efficiency. Art becomes propaganda, science is bent to Doom’s designs, and opposition is dealt with mercilessly. The world enters a golden age built on fear and obedience.

This duality is what makes the “One World Under Doom” concept so fascinating. It blurs the line between hero and tyrant. Doom is not a madman destroying for pleasure—he is building a utopia only he believes is just. Readers are forced to wrestle with uncomfortable questions: would a perfect world be worth living in if it meant surrendering your autonomy?

Ties to Secret Wars

Marvel has flirted with this concept many times, most famously during 2015’s Secret Wars event. In that storyline, Doom steals godlike power and remakes reality into Battleworld, where he rules as a deity. This wasn’t Doom cackling from a throne of skulls—it was Doom desperately maintaining order in a collapsing multiverse. For a moment, he was not just a villain but the linchpin of existence itself.

Why It Resonates

“One World Under Doom” endures because it hits close to home. History is full of leaders who claimed only they could bring stability to the world. Doom embodies both the temptation and the terror of such figures. His reign would end famine and war, but at the unbearable cost of freedom.

It’s also a mirror for us as readers. Doom isn’t entirely wrong—the world is messy, unjust, and often mismanaged. But Marvel reminds us that how we solve problems matters just as much as solving them at all. Doom represents the shortcut, the authoritarian fix. Heroes like the Fantastic Four exist to remind us that progress requires patience, debate, and compassion—not domination.

Marvel Cinematic Universe fans have been waiting for the next story arc for Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye ever since Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 have been in production. There’s long been rumor that the MCU Hawkeye would be undergoing the same kind of evolution that his Marvel Comics counterpart did in the 2000s, losing the purple archer theme and trading for the darker persona of the ninja/samurai crimefighter, Ronin.

Avengers 4 set photos and videos have indeed confirmed that Renner’s Clint Barton will get a big design change in the film, but we’re still waiting on the official look at what MCU Ronin will be.

Thankfully, Marvel fans have been pumping out more and more concept artwork of what Jeremy Renner’s Ronin could look like, and BossLogic has created what may be the best concept for a live-action Ronin yet!

Renner’s Ronin will come with some kind of hood option with his costume. The hood will make Ronin stand out and who doesn’t like a hoodie!

What makes this BossLogic artwork so stunning is the level of detail in the mask. It’s done in a way that definitely brings the comics to life, but also reflects a certain amount of personality in its look, if only a mysterious personality, as well as walking the tightrope between being heroic in the ninja or samurai mask tradition and just plain awesome.

That design aesthetic could be very important to both Ronin’s costume and character arc in Avengers 4. A lot of current fan theory leans towards a scenario in which the retired Clint Barton’s beloved wife and kids were disintegrated in The Snap, leaving Clint traumatized and broken. Instead of returning to Hawkeye work, Clint could presumably become either obsessed with reversing The Snap, or get violent and reckless as a man with nothing left to lose. Either path would definitely require the kind of fearsome Ronin persona depicted above. What do you think of the artwork?

Clark Gregg, who will reprise his role as Agent Coulson in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe venture, recently responded to a fan’s comment about his de-aged look in the film. As Gregg joked, they didn’t need to use any de-aging software on him, and all he had to do was take “a four day nap”.

The joke is pretty hilarious, and has made some fans reminisce about Coulson’s time in the TAHITI program in between The Avengers and Agents of SHIELD. As it turns out, that task of playing a significantly younger Coulson was a pretty interesting pitch to Gregg.

“That was a fun call from my friends in the Cinematic Universe,” Gregg explained in an interview earlier this year. “who I normally see at these events, saying, ‘You know, we think once again we have some work for you, but it takes place in the ’90s. Can you go to the gym?’ Yeah, I said, ‘The ’90s? I mean, there is no gym that can get me back to the ’90s.’ And they said, ‘Well, don’t worry. We’ve been working on that technology, and we think we can goose you back a few years.’”

In the movie, Coulson will manifest in some particularly interesting ways within Captain Marvel, including a sort of “cool” moment between him and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).

“[Coulson] is a relatively new S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who is obsessed with MC Hammer and dresses just like him, and it makes Director Fury so angry,” Gregg quipped earlier this month. “The genie pants don’t really go with the Armani.”

Clark Gregg added, “Getting to see Captain Marvel come to life, I mean that’s a really cool character…and, at least in the comics, one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel universe.” Gregg explained. “Perhaps more powerful than any character we’ve seen, with the exception of Thanos, so to have that be Brie Larson was cool for me. I’m excited to go with my daughter to see it.”

A new photograph that surfaced this weekend that has fans speculating that a fan-favorite character might be returning next May.

In the photograph — which was taken at Simone, a restaurant in which director Joe Russo owns a share — director Taika Waititi can be seen grinning ear-to-ear.

Waititi, of course, played Korg the Kronan in Thor: Ragnarok, a film in which he also directed. Thanks to Korg’s comedic relief, the rock-skinned character soon became a favorite for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe across the globe.

Other cast members include Chris Evans, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, and Marisa Tomei. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is also present with his signature ball cap as is Russo and several others.

Also of note is the inclusion of Yvette Nicole Brown, an actor who appeared in Community, a show in which the Russo Brothers served as executive producers.

According to Feige himself, Korg’s story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t quite done with yet, so it’s totally plausible we see him in Avengers 4, especially after a mysterious disappearance from Avengers: Infinity War.

“We have plans for Korg and Miek,” said Feige in a conversation with Fandango. “When and where we’ll have to wait and see, but we, like the audience now that they’ve seen them, can’t get enough.”

On the commentary track released with the home media version of Avengers: Infinity War, the film’s writers confirmed that some Asgardians did, in fact, escape the ship before Thanos (Josh Brolin) destroyed it.

“I think we should say that several Asgardians have escaped,” Stephen McFeely said, giving fans some hope to hold onto that Korg, Valkyrie, and maybe a few others made it out.

Russo seconds that note, confirming Valkyrie made it out alive. “Several Asgardians have escaped,” Russo said. “I have gone on record saying Valkyrie has escaped with some of the Asgardians.”

Avengers 4 hits the silver screen on May 3, 2019.

We all remember Iron Man coming out in 2008. We even remember the X-Men movies in which most eyes kicked off the golden age of super hero movies. How soon we forget about the man they called Blade and his movie back in 1998. While it and its accompanying sequels were more straight action films, Blade proved that comic books could make for good movies when treated seriously. It’s not much of a wonder then that Marvel Studios has apparently been meeting with Snipes about the future of the franchise.

How can Blade fit in the MCU?

After 20 films, the MCU has established a concrete story. Tony Stark started it all when he announced himself as Iron Man. His buddy Rhodes tagged along to watch his back as War Machine. Agent Coulson found a hammer out in the middle of a desert which led to Thor. Agents of SHIELD were able to fish a man out of time for the icy grave who turns out to be Captain America.

Many movies later we see Thanos snap his fingers and erase half of humanity.

Where does this leave Blade? At the end of Blade: Trinity Blade and Drac beat the heck out of each other which led to the cops finally reaching the building. The cops always show up late but anyway, Drac respects Blade’s fight and changes into Blade to throw off cops from him. He also says that the future of vampires rests with Blade. At this point, we don’t really know what happened to Blade. Did Blade hide in the shadows until he thought his kind was safe? Did he travel far to make vampire babies?

The MCU can bring Blade into a mentor role for the younger Avengers and the other heroes in the MCU. Wesley Snipes is up there but he can still kick ass. During his time away from the world, he could’ve been training a person who is ready to take his place. Maybe his son? Maybe Hannibal King’s son? After the Avengers take out Thanos in Avengers 4, Blade and his new allies can ride in to tell the Avengers of a new threat.

As you can see, in this fans’ version of Avengers 4, Iron Man isn’t taking any chances. The callback here is of course the fact that in Infinity War, Thor used his new axe Stormbreaker to strike down Thanos … only he didn’t aim correctly, and only hit the Mad Titan in the chest, instead of stabbing him in the head. That moment has been become one of the more debated parts of Avengers: Infinity War.

Do not blame Thor for the mistake of stabbing him in the chest … even gods can make a mistake.

Even though this fan art is on point, some people out there may think is too graphic. The last time I checked, Thanos snapped his fingers and wished half of humanity to go bye-bye … and he threw Gamora off a cliff.

To jog your memory, here is the synopsis to Avengers: Infinity War:

Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. For all the Jubilee fans out there, you no longer have to feel disappointed. All the X-Men films have let us down when it came to the woman who can create fireworks with her hands. Last year, I took matters into my own hands. When I sat down in front of my desk, I pulled out my notebook to write a script. At the end of my writing, I was satisfied with what I wrote. My short film entitled “Jubilee: Ostra” was born. Below is the synopsis of the film:

Jubilee and Double Shot have to stop the duo of Ostra and Belon from unleashing the Oyster of Energy. The Oyster of Energy has the ability to drain all the Selenium in the world. It is up to Jubilee and Double Shot to prevent that from happening.

Jubilee: Ostra stars Jane Wishashan, Harry Bailey, Leah Scully and Michael S. Benjamin. This film gave birth to the character of Double Shot … You’re welcome.

There is an AFTER CREDITS scene so don’t stop watching the film once the credits show up.

Jubilation “Jubilee” Lee is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, most commonly in association with the X-Men. Created by writer Chris Claremont and artist Marc Silvestri, the character first appeared in The Uncanny X-Men #244 (May 1989).

Jubilee is a member of the human subspecies known as mutants, born with superhuman abilities. She can generate pyrotechnic energy blasts from her hands. Introduced as an orphaned “mall rat” from Beverly Hills, Jubilee joined the X-Men in the early 1990s, becoming the team’s youngest member and often playing a sidekick role to her father-figure, Wolverine. (Wolverine is not in the film.)

Marvel Studios’ Black Widow stand-alone movie has its director.

Cate Shortland, the Australian filmmaker perhaps best known for the Nazi drama Lore, has signed on to helm Black Widow.

The studio met with over 70 directors in order to find its ideal candidate. A female filmmaker was the priority even as the search stalled at one point and the studio looked at male helmers.

The hunt narrowed in June with Amma Asante (Belle, A United Kingdom) and Maggie Betts (Novitiate) being the finalists alongside Shortland. Speaking of standout directors, Melanie Laurent (Galveston) and Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry) were also in the next-to-final mix.

Shortland, who does not have agency representation, had a fan in Johansson, who pushed for the helmer. The actress admired Shortland’s handling of the female lead in Lore, a critically acclaimed 2012 drama that tells of a young woman who leads her siblings through Germany as the Allied forces roll in. Shortland’s most recent film was Berlin Syndrome, a 2017 thriller that stars Teresa Palmer.

Jac Schaeffer wrote the most recent draft for Black Widow. She also wrote the upcoming female-centric remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, which was formerly titled Nasty Women and is now called The Hustle.

Johansson’s Black Widow is reportedly set before the events of the first Avengers movie and sees the actress reprise the role of the Russian spy turned superheroine. Nick Fury may make an appearance toward the ending of the film. The movie will be Marvel’s second female-focused film after Captain Marvel, which is set to open March 8, 2019.
