Marvel’s Ultimate “What If?”

In the sprawling multiverse of Marvel Comics, alternate realities allow creators to push storytelling into bold new territory. Among the most striking of these visions is “One World Under Doom”—a chilling scenario where Doctor Victor Von Doom, the monarch of Latveria and perennial adversary of the Fantastic Four, finally succeeds in what he has always believed to be his destiny: ruling the entire planet.

Doom’s Vision of Order

Doctor Doom has never seen himself as a mere villain. In his mind, he is a savior—someone burdened with the intellect and will to fix the world where others fail. “One World Under Doom” builds on that premise, asking: What if Doom won?

Instead of chaos, corruption, and endless political infighting, Doom enforces global order through sheer might and unyielding control. Poverty, disease, and crime are crushed under the weight of his iron fist. His Latverian technologies, unmatched by even Tony Stark or Reed Richards, are expanded worldwide. On paper, humanity thrives—at a cost.

The Price of Perfection

While Doom eradicates suffering, he also extinguishes freedom. Individual will, democracy, and creativity are sacrificed for efficiency. Art becomes propaganda, science is bent to Doom’s designs, and opposition is dealt with mercilessly. The world enters a golden age built on fear and obedience.

This duality is what makes the “One World Under Doom” concept so fascinating. It blurs the line between hero and tyrant. Doom is not a madman destroying for pleasure—he is building a utopia only he believes is just. Readers are forced to wrestle with uncomfortable questions: would a perfect world be worth living in if it meant surrendering your autonomy?

Ties to Secret Wars

Marvel has flirted with this concept many times, most famously during 2015’s Secret Wars event. In that storyline, Doom steals godlike power and remakes reality into Battleworld, where he rules as a deity. This wasn’t Doom cackling from a throne of skulls—it was Doom desperately maintaining order in a collapsing multiverse. For a moment, he was not just a villain but the linchpin of existence itself.

Why It Resonates

“One World Under Doom” endures because it hits close to home. History is full of leaders who claimed only they could bring stability to the world. Doom embodies both the temptation and the terror of such figures. His reign would end famine and war, but at the unbearable cost of freedom.

It’s also a mirror for us as readers. Doom isn’t entirely wrong—the world is messy, unjust, and often mismanaged. But Marvel reminds us that how we solve problems matters just as much as solving them at all. Doom represents the shortcut, the authoritarian fix. Heroes like the Fantastic Four exist to remind us that progress requires patience, debate, and compassion—not domination.

HEY, RELAX.

Dark Phoenix was not great, or good to be honest, it was okay. However, it was not deserving of the extremely low ratings it received its first week in the box office. The movie had a simple, easy to follow story line and quite frankly it had infinitely less plot holes then Endgame. Don’t deny the truth.

Maybe my lack of hostility towards the film stems from the fact that I entered the theater after reading several terrible reviews and expected it to be way worse than it was. Or maybe it stems from the fact that I was already expecting to be disappointed because many films and tv shows (Endgame and Game of Thrones) have already disappointed me this year. Either way I knew three things were definitely going on my way to my seat. First, all X-Men (especially Cyclops and Storm) would be extremely underutilized. Second, similar to the last two films Magneto, Mystique, Beast and Professor X have lived for decades and will not age a single day. (I need some of whatever they’re on.) Lastly, I watched The Last Stand and much like everyone else i was not impressed.

ALMOST IS NEVER ENOUGH

Getting into what actually surprised me, I will start with the utter disrespect and lack of humanity for Professor X. His character attributes, character development, and respect for him as the founder of the school and the X-Men were missing in action. I’m not going to give any spoilers in this review but there was one scene involving Professor X and the so-called ‘Dark Phoenix’ that made me sick to my stomach. As villainous as he is, Magneto would never.

Every single on of the action scenes were predictable and anti-climactic. Just as quickly as they began, they ended. In every scene of the movie I would get excited because i just knew an awesome mutant fight scene was about to erupt and somehow that excitement was always cut short. I just needed more from the action scenes.

Hate to say it but The Last Stand did a much better job at portraying Jean’s transformation into Phoenix. Don’t get me wrong, Dark Phoenix was much better as a film but it was unclear what was causing Jean to transform. Was it the power she was exposed to, her emotions, or did she have a split personality? It was as if she was experiencing a combination of all three. Is that the answer? The world may never know.  In The Last Stand at least it was made clear that Jean’s split personality was causing her to act rashly. The writing for Jean’s character was extremely inconsistent, as if they assigned a different writer for Jean per act.

The new species introduced in this film were completely overpowered and I have an extremely large pile of questions. How can one species be able to shape shift, hold a healing factor, be bulletproof (but only for smaller bullets), and have super strength? It looks like a lot but that’s honestly just one of my questions. I don’t even think I named all of their abilities. It was ridiculous.

COULD’VE – SHOULD’VE – WOULD’VE

Redeeming qualities for this film start and end with Michael Fassbender. Just kidding. He had 3 lines. CGI and special effects get 10 stars. The cast is full of extremely talented actors and actresses. I truly believe they did the best with what they were given. Honestly, the film wasn’t that bad. As I mentioned earlier, the story line is simple and if we spent some time cleaning up the plot holes and fixing some irregularities with the characters we could’ve had a hit on our hands.

I wish the X-Men series created by FOX could have gone out with a bang but that’s just not what we were given. I’d say we got the sound sparklers make on the Fourth of July when children run around with them, not the cricket noises the rest of the critics heard. I hope Marvel takes their time and gives the X-Men fans exactly what they’ve been waiting for. Maybe they’ll find the new Hugh Jackman. Or they’ll probably use their de-aging tech because everyone is so picky.

Clark Gregg, who will reprise his role as Agent Coulson in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe venture, recently responded to a fan’s comment about his de-aged look in the film. As Gregg joked, they didn’t need to use any de-aging software on him, and all he had to do was take “a four day nap”.

The joke is pretty hilarious, and has made some fans reminisce about Coulson’s time in the TAHITI program in between The Avengers and Agents of SHIELD. As it turns out, that task of playing a significantly younger Coulson was a pretty interesting pitch to Gregg.

“That was a fun call from my friends in the Cinematic Universe,” Gregg explained in an interview earlier this year. “who I normally see at these events, saying, ‘You know, we think once again we have some work for you, but it takes place in the ’90s. Can you go to the gym?’ Yeah, I said, ‘The ’90s? I mean, there is no gym that can get me back to the ’90s.’ And they said, ‘Well, don’t worry. We’ve been working on that technology, and we think we can goose you back a few years.’”

In the movie, Coulson will manifest in some particularly interesting ways within Captain Marvel, including a sort of “cool” moment between him and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).

“[Coulson] is a relatively new S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who is obsessed with MC Hammer and dresses just like him, and it makes Director Fury so angry,” Gregg quipped earlier this month. “The genie pants don’t really go with the Armani.”

Clark Gregg added, “Getting to see Captain Marvel come to life, I mean that’s a really cool character…and, at least in the comics, one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel universe.” Gregg explained. “Perhaps more powerful than any character we’ve seen, with the exception of Thanos, so to have that be Brie Larson was cool for me. I’m excited to go with my daughter to see it.”

A new photograph that surfaced this weekend that has fans speculating that a fan-favorite character might be returning next May.

In the photograph — which was taken at Simone, a restaurant in which director Joe Russo owns a share — director Taika Waititi can be seen grinning ear-to-ear.

Waititi, of course, played Korg the Kronan in Thor: Ragnarok, a film in which he also directed. Thanks to Korg’s comedic relief, the rock-skinned character soon became a favorite for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe across the globe.

Other cast members include Chris Evans, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, and Marisa Tomei. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is also present with his signature ball cap as is Russo and several others.

Also of note is the inclusion of Yvette Nicole Brown, an actor who appeared in Community, a show in which the Russo Brothers served as executive producers.

According to Feige himself, Korg’s story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t quite done with yet, so it’s totally plausible we see him in Avengers 4, especially after a mysterious disappearance from Avengers: Infinity War.

“We have plans for Korg and Miek,” said Feige in a conversation with Fandango. “When and where we’ll have to wait and see, but we, like the audience now that they’ve seen them, can’t get enough.”

On the commentary track released with the home media version of Avengers: Infinity War, the film’s writers confirmed that some Asgardians did, in fact, escape the ship before Thanos (Josh Brolin) destroyed it.

“I think we should say that several Asgardians have escaped,” Stephen McFeely said, giving fans some hope to hold onto that Korg, Valkyrie, and maybe a few others made it out.

Russo seconds that note, confirming Valkyrie made it out alive. “Several Asgardians have escaped,” Russo said. “I have gone on record saying Valkyrie has escaped with some of the Asgardians.”

Avengers 4 hits the silver screen on May 3, 2019.

In the wake of the tragic passing of Burt Reynolds earlier today, many people are paying tribute to the famous actor and posting their own messages in honor of the Academy Award-nominated star.

Now Ryan Reynolds posted a hilarious photo honoring the late actor, pointing out how Burt inspired a humorous marketing campaign for Deadpool.

Ryan’s statement is the latest to come from family, friends, and colleagues all outpouring in their support. The actor’s passing was a surprise to many, and in response people are speaking about their favorite memories of the iconic star.

Burt’s family issued a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, where his niece Nancy Lee Hess reflected on his legacy.

“My uncle was not just a movie icon; he was a generous, passionate, and sensitive man who was dedicated to his family, friends, fans, and acting students,” said Hess.

“He has had health issues, however, this was totally unexpected. He was tough. Anyone who breaks their tailbone on a river and finishes the movie is tough. And that’s who he was. My uncle was looking forward to working with Quentin Tarantino [in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood] and the amazing cast that was assembled.”

Burt’s former flame and co-star of the classic Smokey and the Bandit, Sally Field, issued a statement to the Associated Press in honor of his memory.

“There are times in your life that are so indelible, they never fade away. They stay alive, even forty years later. My years with Burt never leave my mind. He will be in my history and my heart, for as long as I live. Rest, Buddy,” Field’s statement reads.

These declarations are just a few of the many, many statements issued in the wake of Burt Reynold’s passing. Everyone has come out in support of the family while honoring the storied legacy the actor has had on the industry.

Burt Reynolds was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in Boogie Nights, and is known for films such as Deliverance, Cannonball Run, Smokey and the Bandit, and The Longest Yard. He is survived by his son Quinton.

As you can see, in this fans’ version of Avengers 4, Iron Man isn’t taking any chances. The callback here is of course the fact that in Infinity War, Thor used his new axe Stormbreaker to strike down Thanos … only he didn’t aim correctly, and only hit the Mad Titan in the chest, instead of stabbing him in the head. That moment has been become one of the more debated parts of Avengers: Infinity War.

Do not blame Thor for the mistake of stabbing him in the chest … even gods can make a mistake.

Even though this fan art is on point, some people out there may think is too graphic. The last time I checked, Thanos snapped his fingers and wished half of humanity to go bye-bye … and he threw Gamora off a cliff.

To jog your memory, here is the synopsis to Avengers: Infinity War:

Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. Dave Bautista has been standing up for James Gunn ever since Disney fired him from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Disney fired Gunn for some offensive tweets recently uncovered by hardcore right-wing Conservatives. In a new social media post, he calls out the studio once more, while also taking aim at Michael Cernovich, the man many people credit for getting Gunn fired.

In the video, Cernovich brags about his talents of writing hit pieces.

In the video that Dave Bautista shared, and tagged Disney in, Mike Cernovich and his wife can be seen bragging about taking public figures down. Cernovich boasts about shifting a narrative to get his point across. He alludes to the fact that he has no problem lying and making facts up to shift the public reputation of the person that he is attacking. Bautista had this to say about the video.

It’s unclear where all of the footage of Mike Cernovich admitting his tactics came from, but they were edited together out of context by a social media user who investigates Cernovich’s hit pieces. Regardless of your stance on James Gunn’s firing from Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Cernovich is perpetuating the divide of the United States through making up fake news.

Mike Cernovich is considered a hardcore right-wing Conservative. He is a huge Trump follower and argues with James Gunn on Twitter about his stance on Trump. It would not be a surprise if Mike got his other followers to drink the Kool-Aid or Hawaiian Punch and told them to bury Gunn.

Mike Cernovich has anti-women tweets all over his account but there are people who pretend to have a blind eye. The GOTG fans are thankful for Dave Bautista stepping to the plate for James Gunn.
