Edited by Debbie Berman (“Spider-Man: Homecoming”) and Michael P. Shawver (“Creed”), the eighteenth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe nicely moves scene to scene while revealing information purposefully. The opening scene takes place in 1992. A cut back to present day and you think that’s that. However, the editing duo continuously returns to the opening scene throughout different parts of the film to reveal more and more pieces that affect the “Black Panther” story arc.

Director Ryan Coogler anchored the plot around strong performances from Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, and Danai Gurira. Each actor displayed a sense of humanism and a knack for superhuman fighting skills. Boseman and Jordan were the only two wearing Wakanda suits as ’T’Challa/Black Panther’ and ‘Erick Killmonger’, respectively. Nyong’o and Gurira portray spy/love interest ‘Nakia’ and Wakandan general ‘Okay’, respectively.

The script perfectly blended intrigue and humor over 134 minutes of screen time. Letitia Wright, playing Boseman’s on-screen younger sister,’Shuri,’ brings as many jokes as she does high-tech gear that Wakandan royalty can play with. Visually stunning, the kingdom spreads over landscapes of sunbathing grasslands and rigorous trails edging snow covered mountains.

Overall, the film packs as much punch as a Black Panther suit, which is a lot. Followers of the current Marvel timeline won’t see references to other films. Nevertheless, Marvel film geeks will more than likely enjoy it. Fans of the original comics will gleam seeing the African king roll through theaters as smoothly as his superhero counterparts.

Wakanda forever.

New trailers, film stills, and clips are drawing buzz around the King of Wakanda played by Chadwick Boseman. Within 31 days, audiences will see a powerful futuristic African society raise a new superhero in a film largely devoid of white actors. Marvel’s Black Panther is headlined by black actors and actresses, and the female characters who are not assistants nor solely love interests.  As the Panther battles to save the world and his people, fans are going to experience a generational cinematic event akin to DC’s Wonder Woman that shows Hollywood a minority superhero in a minority society can sell at the box office.

THE PUNISHER STAYS IN NEW YORK

Reports indicate production of Netflix’s The Punisher season 2 is likely to remain in New York. Season 1 starring the NYC based, gritty, rage-fueled comic book anti-hero hit Netflix in November 2017. Marvel can’t be more pleased with the reception the show received. Netflix released Frank Castle’s (played by Jon Bernenthal) story late in 2017. Upon release, The Punisher received a 62% from critics on RottenTomatoes (93% fan rating). While Marvel is bringing other vigilantes together (aka The Avengers), The Punisher seems most likely to exact justice as a one-man band. Castle can just as easily endanger his friends as he does his enemies. However, that doesn’t mean the gun-wielding ex Marine won’t fight alongside former ally Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and others if given the opportunity.

Berenthal was asked recently at ACE Comic Con in Arizona about who he would like to appear on screen with. His answer revealed Cox and Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter.

“You know, I love Charlie [Cox]. I’ve worked with him before and I’d work with him again on anything in a heartbeat. He’s the reason I’m doing this.He brought me into this and his performance is what made me want to do it.” Berenthal said on Cox.

“I’m a huge fan of Krysten’s [Ritter] too. She’s killer and I’d love to work with her as well.” Berenthal said on Ritter.

Marvel’s Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme along with Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) as Baron Mordo, Benedict Wong as Wong, Tilda Swinton (Only Lovers Left Alive) as The Ancient One and, in undisclosed roles, Rachel McAdams (The Vow), Michael Stuhlbarg (Pawn Sacrifice), Scott Adkins (The Bourne Ultimatum), Amy Landecker (Transparent), and Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal).

Doctor Strange is directed by Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Deliver Us From Evil) from a script by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus, Passengers) and C. Robert Cargill (Sinister). Marvel’s Doctor Strange follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe.

Doctor Strange hits theaters everywhere Friday, November 4, 2016.

    Thor: Ragnarok will mark the return of Chris Hemsworth as the Odinson himself, with Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Sir Anthony Hopkins reprising his role as Odin the All-Father. Cate Blanchett plays the mysterious and powerful new villain Hela, Jeff Goldblum stars as the eccentric Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson will bring the classic hero Valkyrie to life on the big screen, and Karl Urban will add his might to the fray as Skurge.

Kevin Feige will produce the film. Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Victoria Alonso, Thomas M. Hammel and Stan Lee serve as executive producers, and the film boasts a screenplay from Stephany Folsom, Craig Kyle, Eric Pearson and Christopher Yost.

The outlet tells us that a character named Ayesha, aka Her/Kismet/Paragon, will serve as the antagonist for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. Created by a group of scientists and named “Her” as a replacement to their first experiment, “Him,” who comic fans will know is Adam Warlock (oh yeah, they’re going there). In the source material, Ayesha would go on to seek out Adam Warlock so the pair could start a new perfect race of beings together. A previously-stated theory about Adam Warlock being Peter Quill’s father could spark the confrontation between Ayesha and the Guardians. Does this bit of news add credence that theory?

Lastly, a note that Ragnarok will be incorporating elements from the long-wanted, heavily rumored, ever-postponed Planet Hulk storyline, wherein Bruce Banner’s green alter ego is battling it out in gladiatorial games. Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster is stated to be the one behind these gladiatorial games and that The Hulk is rumored to be wearing the fan-favorite armor from the comic.

If cast (fingers crossed) Nyong’o will be starring alongside Chadwick Boseman, post his breakaway success in Captain America: Civil War. Nyong’o potential role in the Black Panther film is currently unknown, but rumor from the outlet hints she will be playing T’Challa’s romantic interest (this writer would prefer Shuri, T’Challa’s half-sister and eventual replacement as Black Panther, but…). Andy Serkis will return as Ulysses Klaw, after having made his debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron. 

Creed director Ryan Coogler will direct the film, as well as providing the script. Production for Black Panther is slated to begin in early 2017 to meet its February 16, 2018 release date in theaters.

Marvel Studios has made the announcement that their final trailer for Captain America: Civil War will be hitting us online tomorrow. While we all struggle trying not to hyperventilate with anticipatory glee, we’ve got two trailer teases to hold us over until then. Chadwick Boseman joins the MCU as T’Chall/Black Panther, Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo, Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones, William Hurt as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross and Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man. The film will also debut Marvel’s new Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland.

Marvel Studios and Netflix have unveiled ‘Part 1’ of their new trailer for season 2 of their critically acclaimed superhero series about the ‘man with no fear’. The trailer can be viewed in the player below.

All 13-episodes of Daredevil season 2 will be available for streaming on Netflix March 18, 2016. Apparently, there was an earlier rumor floating around that the second season of the Marvel/Netflix original would premiere the same weekend as (and thereby compete with)  Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice — Warner Bros. own aspiring juggernaut of a blockbuster — which is slated for released in theaters on March 25, 2016. This new bit of info about our blind attorney from Hell’s Kitchen puts the kibosh on that however.

Just when Matt thinks he is bringing order back to the city, new forces are rising in Hell’s Kitchen. Now the Man Without Fear must take on a new adversary in Frank Castle and face an old flame – Elektra Natchios.

Bigger problems emerge when Frank Castle, a man looking for vengeance, is reborn as The Punisher, a man who takes justice into his own hands in Matt’s neighborhood. Meanwhile, Matt must balance his duty to his community as a lawyer and his dangerous life as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, facing a life-altering choice that forces him to truly understand what it means to be a hero.

Season two of Marvel’s Daredevil sees (figuratively speaking) the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple and Scott Glenn as Stick, Murdock’s estranged ex-mentor.

Season two will also introduce ex-Walking Dead actor Jon Bernthal to Hell’s Kitchen’s fold as Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, and Elodie Yung as Elektra Natchios, the ‘Greek girl’ referred to in season one as Matt’s ex-flame, turned highly skilled assassin.
