After a long journey through the dark and twisty wasteland of movie development, movie studio Relativity has greenlit the long awaited reboot of James O’Barr’s “The Crow”.

The Wrap reports Jason Mamoa, the new Aquaman, has been cast as Eric Draven aka The Crow, Mamoa is set to begin filming in January after he completes work on Justice League.

The plot will be the same as the original source material in the 1989 series of the same name…..Eric Draven and his fiancee are murdered and he returns from the dead for vengeance.

James O’Barr the creator of “The Crow” graphic novels is reported to have an influential part in the story and style development of the film.

Created by Bob Haney and Nick Cardy, Black Manta has served as a staple villain in Aquaman lore for decades. It would not be until the 1990’s when Black Manta would be given a proper origin story, which would occasionally be re-imagined or retold in numerous ways and through an equal number of mediums as being: an abused child among a ship’s crew, the revenge-seeking son of a felled ship’s captain and an autistic orphan driven to villainy after being the subject of experimentation in Arkham Asylum.

Jason Mamoa (Game of Thrones) will serve as the titular King of the Seven Seas, after having made his official debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and after entering the fold of heroes in the Justice League film.  Amber Heard will play Mera (Queen of Atlantis) and Willem Dafoe as his advisor Vulko.

James Wan will helm the solo Aquaman film as director, with a script penned by screenwriter Will Beall and acclaimed comic book writer and DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns.

Aquaman is set to hit theaters July 27, 2018.

Heard’s role in the film will be Mera, the romantic interest (and one day Queen of Atlantis) of our titular male lead. Prior to his own solo film, Mamoa will make his inaugural appearance in the DCCU in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, set to hit theaters on March 25, 2016. Aquaman will return in Justice League – Part One and Justice League – Part Two, slated for November 10, 2017 and June 14, 2019 respectively. Aquaman’s solo film will land between Justice League flicks, set for release on July 27, 2018.

It will indeed be a busy time for the king of the seven seas.

Aquaman will be directed by Saw and Furious 7 director James Wan, and is currently having two scripts simultaneously prepped by the studio. One by Kurt Johnstad (300, 300: Rise of an Empire) and another by David Leslie Johnson (Wrath of the Titans, The Conjuring 2). Producing the film are Charles Roven, along with Zack and Deborah Snyder.
