In This Corner of the World (also known as Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni) is a 2016 Japanese animated war time drama. Produced by MAPPA, this story features character designs by Hidenori Matsubara and music by Kotringo. This film is based on the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Fumiyo Kono.

Already getting Oscar buzz, this animated film by Sunao Katabuchi touches on a key moment in Japanese history. The film is set in the 1930s-40s in Hiroshima and Kure, Japan. In this riveting story, a creative young woman named Suzu marries a man named Shusaku and moves to Kure City, a city 15 miles away from her home in Hiroshima City. Due to the threat of war, Suzu adapts to the situation by attending training against air raids, helping with with food distribution, and makes women’s trousers fit for emergency evacuation. Seeking solace in her drawings, Suzu uses the unique landscape to her advantage. As the threat grows throughout the film Suzu keeps her cheerful and optimistic personality. Eventually the war reaches its peak and Suzu’s life is forever changed. I strongly encourage anyone and everyone to check out this film. But for now, feel free to watch this preview!

Attack On Titan English Dub Cast Revealed

The second season of Attack on Titan is in full swing! So far, by following true to the manga, the continuation of the series has received rave reviews from My Anime List and Den of Geek (my personal favorite review sites). Now that the Japanese version has been released, we now wait for the English dub to premiere. To our delight, the cast of the dubbed version has been released. The cast will include last seasons regulars:

The dubbed version will premiere on Adult Swim’s Toonami this coming Saturday and will also be streamed this Sunday on Funimation. The second season of AOT will have 12 episodes.

Is There A New Studio Ghibli Movie In The Works?

Get ready ladies and gents! It looks like a new Studio Ghibli movie is being created as we speak!

Hayao Miyazaki, widely known for his work on My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away, is now preparing to come out of retirement in order to make a new film for Studio Ghibli. Fellow producer Toshio Suzuki, has confirmed this news in a pre-Oscars interview last month while attending the Academy Awards for his film The Red Turtle. In the interview, Suzuki stated that Miyazaki presented him a story board for the project that Miyazaki had created in just 20 minutes. 20 MINUTES!

It is speculated that this film will be a feature length version of Miyazaki’s CGI animated short, Boro the Caterpillar. Although Suzuki did not say much about the film, he did reveal that it “is really interesting.” There is yet to be a release date set for this project.
