I’ve watched the first few(3) episodes. I’m not really sure if I like it. The episode are 50 minutes but the story moves really slow. It looks like it has the opportunity to be really good all the elements are all there. A cutting age robot different from all the rest, a super shady corporation, a robot hating cop, a family in crisis (including a teenage boy), the mob and the guy that wraps the family into this situation. It definitely gives me IRobot vibes. So far the little girl Sonya is my favorite. There is definitely something weird about their robot Arisa. The series does touch on some things like will robots pollute human interaction and relationships. 

 I’m going to give it one more episode. And I’ll give u an update. If you have watched it let me know in the comments what you thought. I’m hoping for epic action.  Should I hold out and keep going or should I cut my losses.

Badass Girl is a loner teen who lives a harsh life in the post-apocalypse wild.  She is alone in the world kicking ass no help needed.

Chris Everheart author of BadAss Girl has published more than 20 action and fiction graphic novels for children and young adults. As a child, Chris never imagined he would be a writer. As a child art was his love and  he later received an art degree. Chris decided to take up writing as a creative outlet when his child was young. When asked if he was a feminist he replied “I’m a feminist, I have to be. I grow up with girls who punch back.” Growing up Chris saw no difference between girl being tough and getting things done and their male counterparts. His mom was tough and his sister was tough.

BadAss Girl was inspired by several things including the 2017 Wonder Woman film, the author’s feminist opinions and the women in his life. Chris loved to see a kick ass women having a big profile and not being a side story. “I really wanted to create something that featured a kick ass girl on her own.”  Based on his history with writing youth fiction he decided to make his hero a teen and to have her set in a post-apocalyptic world, the harshest conditions he could imagine. The world was destroyed by aliens who have stripped the Earth of its resources and life. BadAss Girl is alone with no parents, on a lawless Earth.

Chris says the title of the series is what came first. Badass Girl is described as a cross between Katness Everdeen and Clint Eastwood’s character in Man With No Name. She is a full character on her own. During the process of creating BadAss Girl Chris spoke with female comic readers to see what they wanted in a hero. Their number one response was they were tired of a romantic interest. They wanted a badass hero who wasn’t worried about boys. They wanted a female figure that didn’t need a male to help or save her. This is definitely an opinion I can get behind. They also were tired of female heroes having to ask for permission or for help. They wanted an independent female who was bad enough and tough enough to kick ass all on her own.

One thing that stood out to me about this character was the attire. BadAss Girl wears a hoodie,  full length pants and boots ‘Without a heel!!’. For me personally the attire of female heroes has always been an issue. How is a leotard and knee high 6 inch boots functional for fighting. Why do the female character have to be so hyper-sexualized? When asked about this decision Chris revealed that the attire was influenced by the women around him. He didn’t see the women in his life wear outfits like you see on female heroes, even when doing everyday things let alone fighting.Chris wanted the character to be realistic, something a woman and her situation would actually wear.

Chris hopes for BadAss Girl to become a TV series to influencer young girls all over. To show the world a female as both a real person and a real hero. BadAss Girl is a real woman. She is confronting the same obstacles and emotions we all must confront at some point. A girl who identifies with the audience reading about her.

If have a teen boy or girl into comics this is definitely a read you should pick up.

So you’re interested in going to BookCon well  let me give you a few tips. Here in New York Book con takes places at the Jacob Javits Center. The convention has parts, one the industry insider “BookExpo” and one for the public “BookCon”.  BookExpo is the leading trade event where insiders like publishers, authors, and booksellers gather. Reedpop puts on this convention. They also do New York Comic Con. You can grow your knowledge of the industry, learn from educational panels and make connections. If your really into a particular Author or Publisher and definitely if you are a up and coming author than you may want to spend the extra buck and attend at least one day of this convention. If you are just a lover of book PERIOD like me than BookCon is definitely the event for you. This event is two days this year (2019), June 1st and 2nd.

Here are a few tips if your going to attend book con and make the most out of it.

1. Bring a large rolling bag. Who knew book were so heavy. The free books you get start to add up, you back will thank me. Don’t worry everyone is doing it!!! – make sure you double check this as rules may change.
2. Bring snacks. Food is expensive and you don’t want to buy all three meals plus snacks from the center. $$$
3. Follow all your favorite publishers and authors on twitter. Turn notifications on.
4. Grab a book guide by BookCon on your way in. It will give me a map, a list of exhibitors and a schedule of events.
5. Take a lap around and see what is there.
6. The early bird gets the worm, free books have limited quantity.
7. If you want to see a popular author and maybe get an autograph you will have to show up to the convention super early. Tickets are first come.
8. Don’t be shy, you will be standing in line and you will probably run into the same people say hello make friends.
9. Have a plan as to where to put books before you go.
10. Wear shoes for walking.
11. Bring external phone battery.
12. Make a schedule in you phone and turn on notifications.
13. Great gift for a book lover.
14. Anything you don’t want donate.
15. Make sure that if you want to bring a camera you look at the event’s camera and tripod policies.
16. You will not be able to get everything, that’s ok.
