It began with company executives deciding to limit consumers from using MoviePass during certain weekends to see specific films.  That was followed by a  restriction on the number of times the app could be used per month. Instead of being able to purchase tickets for a movie a day, MoviePass users can use the service three times a month.

The company nearly raised its monthly subscription cost to $14.95 had it not been for the backlash from consumers.

“We have heard – and we have listened to – our MoviePass Community and we will not be raising prices to $14.95 a month,” the company said in a press release. “The new plan is focused on usage by the bulk of our subscribers who have historically used MoviePass to attend three movies or fewer a month.”

For just under ten bucks, you could have seen a movie every day and saved a lot of money. MoviePass is desperately trying to save itself through controversial decisions logical to the company and dissuading to consumers. How long do you think MoviePass has in the market?

“We have 33 [projects], two more than we’ve ever had, and that was not intentional. I was going for less,” Loren Hammonds, one of the curators of the festival’s Immersive program, said in an interview this month. “But there’s so much good work.”

While there is good work this year, that has not always been the case. VR has evolved into a staple attraction at major conventions over the last five years. Engineers at tech-savvy companies Sony, HTC, Samsung, Google, and Facebook-owned Oculus have been tasked to build head-mounted devices. VR is more of a spotty kind of entertainment, excluding video games where virtual technology has received mixed reviews. Most of the impressive storytelling VR content has been placed in museums and film festivals.

The last time EA appeared to be making an open world Star Wars was in 2013. Such a game brings lofty expectations. Even though the game will not be released, let alone completed, for some time, the last thing that EA fans need is another reason to be angry after a difficult six months. In November, EA underwent a myriad of criticism due to the Battlefront 2 microtransaction controversy. Before that, EA shut down the studio that attempted to reboot a Star Wars open world experience, Visceral.

VP of EA Worldwide studios Patrick Soderlund released the following statement in regards to the game’s slow and tedious development.

“Our Visceral studio has been developing an action-adventure title set in the Star Wars universe. In its current form, it was shaping up to be a story-based, linear adventure game. Throughout the development process, we have been testing the game concept with players, listening to the feedback about what and how they want to play, and closely tracking fundamental shifts in the marketplace. It has become clear that to deliver an experience that players will want to come back to and enjoy for a long time to come, we needed to pivot the design.”

While we wait for EA’s next move, we hope that the force will be strong with the next one.

The movie ties in icons across Disney, Sony, 20th Century Fox, Paramount, and Universal universes. Managing to get all those companies to comply could have been tedious, but, luckily, everyone cooperated seamlessly.

“Everybody basically came on board to help us take their IPs and allow us to create easter eggs from their own cultural phenomenons,” Spielberg said.

And, for the first time, PlayStation and Xbox heroes will be portrayed side by side. Some names are about to be dropped so you are warned. Spoilers are ahead!

From the trailer, we see Croft of the Tomb Raider franchise and Commander Shepherd from Mass Effect enjoying the bar. Reports indicate Kratos from God of War, Nathan Drake from Uncharted, and Sackboy from Littlebigplanet will appear in the film. According to Comicbook.com, the aforementioned characters, and likely many more, will take part in the final battle alongside Parzival against the evil corporation. Additionally, Spielberg and Warner Bros. received rights to use R2-D2 in the film.

“We didn’t want to use the main cultural icons from any of the Disney Star Wars films because those are ongoing. That’s part of our contemporary world right now.” Spielberg said.

Viewers privy to the film’s screening at this year’s South by Southwest conference praised the film. Eric Vespe, senior entertainment writer for The Know over at Rooster Teeth, took to Twitter to rave about the experience.

More characters to pictured in the trailer are the Joker and Harley Quinn at 3:53 and horror genre’s own Chucky from Child’s Play at 4:03. Ready Player One hits theaters on March 29. Maybe, by the end of the film, audiences across America will cheer as they did at SXSW.

Infinity War hits theaters on April 27th after Robert Downey Jr.’s tease ran rampant on the internet and Marvel later confirmed it.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been building this story arc up through post-credit scenes since the first Avengers six years ago. Thanos is closer than he’s been before with two infinity stones in his possession. The trailer reveals Thanos meeting the leader of an extra0terrestrial force and an apparent quintet of villains including Loki amongst them. Like Gamora said, if Thanos takes all six infinity stones, he will be unstoppable.

It will be an exciting spectacle certain to highlight a few recent additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe  – including Black Panther and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man – and possibly end some current incarnations of superheroes. Robert Downey Jr as the billionaire rebel Tony Stark/Ironman and Chris Evans as the morally driven Captain America are both contractually obliged to finish Infinity War. As of this writing, neither has signed on to an unnamed Avengers 4 film.

Edited by Debbie Berman (“Spider-Man: Homecoming”) and Michael P. Shawver (“Creed”), the eighteenth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe nicely moves scene to scene while revealing information purposefully. The opening scene takes place in 1992. A cut back to present day and you think that’s that. However, the editing duo continuously returns to the opening scene throughout different parts of the film to reveal more and more pieces that affect the “Black Panther” story arc.

Director Ryan Coogler anchored the plot around strong performances from Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, and Danai Gurira. Each actor displayed a sense of humanism and a knack for superhuman fighting skills. Boseman and Jordan were the only two wearing Wakanda suits as ’T’Challa/Black Panther’ and ‘Erick Killmonger’, respectively. Nyong’o and Gurira portray spy/love interest ‘Nakia’ and Wakandan general ‘Okay’, respectively.

The script perfectly blended intrigue and humor over 134 minutes of screen time. Letitia Wright, playing Boseman’s on-screen younger sister,’Shuri,’ brings as many jokes as she does high-tech gear that Wakandan royalty can play with. Visually stunning, the kingdom spreads over landscapes of sunbathing grasslands and rigorous trails edging snow covered mountains.

Overall, the film packs as much punch as a Black Panther suit, which is a lot. Followers of the current Marvel timeline won’t see references to other films. Nevertheless, Marvel film geeks will more than likely enjoy it. Fans of the original comics will gleam seeing the African king roll through theaters as smoothly as his superhero counterparts.

Wakanda forever.

CHADWICK BOSEMAN, T’Challa/Black Panther

Boseman, 41, sits on the throne of Wakanda. The American actor is not afraid of taking on big roles in biopic films. He played titular roles in Marshall (2017),  Get On Up (2014), and 42 (2013).  Fans were introduced to Boseman as the Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War during the airport fight scene. Boseman found out that he would be starring in Black Panther while screening Get on Up in Zurich. He was excited to receive the call and said yes without hesitation.

“[Marvel has] a good batting average,” Boseman said.

MICHAEL B JORDAN, Erik Killmonger

Jordan, 31, has moved out of the ring in Creed (2015) to the fighting grounds of Wakanda. He will be playing the villain – the first time he’s ever fought against the hero in a film – competing with “T’Challa” (Boseman) to lead Wakanda. Born in Santa Ana, CA, Jordan is known for acting in television dramas The Wire (2002) and Friday Night Lights (2006). The latter of which he starred as troubled quarterback Vince Howard for two seasons. After wrapping Black Panther, Jordan made his directorial debut with Brisk’s new 30-second spot. There is more to come this year for the California native as he is slated to direct an upcoming feature as well as star in Creed II. 

ANGELA BASSETT, Ramonda

Bassett, 59, born and raised in New York City, NY, holds an impressive resume over the last three decades. She portrays the elegant stepmother of “T’Challa” (Boseman). Bassett recalls the heroes in films she looked up earlier in her career. “When I was growing up, I had Superfly, I had Shaft, those were the guys who were taking down the bad guys,” she told Entertainment Weekly. For Bassett, Black Panther fulfilled a long-awaited dream.

“I never thought I was going to be able to see that in my day. To be able to portray a queen…I thought, ‘Hey, it’s got to be possible in some mythological, mystical, make-believe world.'”

LUPITA NYONG’O, Nakia

Nyong’O, 34, plays a member of the Dora Milaje, the women who serve as special forces to the kingdom of Wakanda and bodyguards of the Black Panther. Her breakthrough came in Steve McQueen’s gripping historical drama, 12 Years a Slave (2013).  Nyong’O won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as “Patsey” in the film.

“I was heartbroken by her story,” Nyong’O said. “I recognized then that I had a lot of work to do to get to a point where I could play her, because feeling that kind of sympathy for someone is no way to actually inhabit them. She was just simple and she was trying to get by on a daily basis. She’s not sentimental about her pain. I had to have the same kind of attitude.”

DANAI GURIRA, Okoye

Gurira, 39, replaces her katana with a Wakanda spear as the general of the Wakandan army and the Dora Milaje. The female celebrity struck stardom for her role as “Michonne” in AMC’s hit horror series, The Walking Dead. Gurira and her female costars enjoy how Wakandan society is not patriarchal nor limits to what men and women could be. In response to a question about the equality seen in Wakanda’s social hierarchy, Gurira had this to say:

“Why not! It really does make you say, ‘Why Not’? To me, it’s about equality, and allowing each gender to come to the fullness of their potential without discriminatory hindrances. That is what this nation figured out,” she told Entertainment Weekly.
